Atlanta 4/25/2012 06:14 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

A busy railway station in eastern Pakistan was thrown into chaos Tuesday afternoon when a bomb exploded near passengers waiting to board a train. Police say two people died and at least 27 others were wounded in the explosion at the main Business Express station in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.

Lahore police chief Aslam Tareen says the bomb was placed inside a bag and left in a waiting area of the station. The bomb contained between 13 to 18 pounds of explosives, according to Tareen. The dead reportedly includes a railway police officer and a porter.

The station was evacuated after the blast and all trains were searched for addition explosives. All train services were suspended while authorities investigated. “We will have to investigate how they (terrorists) entered the railway station with the explosive device despite checks,” Tareen said.

Business Express is a new railway line that runs between Lahore and Karachi.
