Faith Based Treatment Center Doctor Shares His Experience
Most experts agree that faith based drug rehabs play an important role for addiction recovery in the United States. Studies prove that faith based treatment centers show improved recovery rates for patients who attend their programs. According to these studies, performed by the Federal Government, a combination of faith based drug rehab and traditional multimodality addiction treatment methods show the best results for recovering addicts and alcoholics.
Many people misinterpret the faith based drug rehab initiative, by viewing the concept as positioning itself with people who believe addiction is a moral issue. However, during the Bush administration an executive order was instituted that not only provided funding for some faith based treatment centers, but also defined their role as part of the overall public health issue of addiction. This definition clearly steers faith based rehabs in the direction of the public health sector, which already understands that addiction is a disease, rather than a moral issue.
Even within the public health sector, a combination of medical expertise and spirituality is used to treat alcoholics and addicts. Faith based treatment centers simply advertise openly the spiritual aspect of the solution for addiction. Most treatment centers use a spiritual approach, but are not so open in advertising this important aspect of recovery for fear that a suffering addict will be adverse to this important component and deny themselves help as a result.
