Atlanta 1/10/2013 12:25 AM GMT (TransWorldNews)

A ferry carrying about 340 commuters from Atlantic City, New Jersey to Lower Manhattan slammed into a dock Wednesday morning, knocking some passengers off balance and throwing others into the air. Police say some 50 people were injured in the crash. Two of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The accident happened at 8:45 a.m. during the morning rush hour at Pier 11 near Wall Street. The right side of the Seastreak Wall Street was left with a large gash. Witnesses say many of the commuters were thrown to the ground, into walls and into each other.

"There was a large jolt. It felt like we were in a car crash. ... Several people were thrown into the air and onto the ground,” said Elizabeth Banta, who was on board Seastreak.

“We just tumbled on top of each other. I got thrown into everybody else. ... People were hysterical, crying," 57-year-old Ellen Foran said.

Several passengers had to be removed from the ferry on stretchers. The cause of the crash remains unclear. No other details were immediately available.
