Active and retired military personnel who like to golf will receive a 50 percent savings on their entry fee into the U.S. Putting Tour Championship taking place in San Diego later this month.
"The military are such a big part of San Diego County," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "And with 9/11 approaching, we wanted to give all military a chance to compete in our national putting championship at a very reduced price."
The putting championship has a guaranteed first place prize of $10,000. Military personnel who compete in the event can elect to compete for the cash prizes or retain their amateur status by signing a waiver, which allows them to win merchandise prizes provided by the tournament's presenting sponsor, Ashdon Golf.
Hartley said that, similar to all entrants, individuals from the military can pick the day they want to play their first round, consisting of 72 holes of putting. Golfers can choose one of the first six days of the putting championship
, September 26 through October 1. The entire putting competition will be held on the main putting green at The Crossings, the newest San Diego golf
The golf tournament
is open to all golfers who are at least 13 years of age as of September 26, 2011. There will be one overall winner, who will receive the crystal USPT Championship trophy, and winners of the professional and amateur divisions. Men and women will compete together and there will be no handicaps factored into the scoring.
