Hitsquad Production announces Chicago-based TV network WGN will air six episodes of their reality show “Tattoo Factory” beginning Thursday December 8, 2011. The show’s Executive Producer, Kevin Worthy, describes the show as "real reality, not scripted reality" and aims to showcase tattoos and the stories behind them.
In business for 28 years, the Tattoo Factory is a Chicago landmark. The popular studio was founded by Peter "Tattoo Pete" Collurafici who discovered his passion for tattoos at age 14 and stopped at nothing to live his dream and own his own studio.
Unfortunately, "Tattoo Pete" died in a motorcycle accident on May 22, 1996, but his tattoo studio lives on under the tutelage of his brother, Paul Collurafici. Worthy and Collurafici collaborated to create a reality show focused on clients, tattoos, and the artists that create them, while steering clear of the typical scripted Hollywood drama.
Worthy states, "There are talented tattoo artists and compelling stories behind why people are getting body art. We felt it was time to let people see what really goes on in a tattoo studio, rather than creating drama for the sake of TV ratings."
With the help of several talented local film and TV production crew members, the story behind the Tattoo Factory is revealed. Notable crew members include Emmy award-winning Chicago producer Beverly Price, and top industry gaffer Ron Leahy who is known for his work on the big screen in popular movies such as Fallen Souls, Backdraft, Public Enemies and the TV show E.R.
The cast and crew of Tattoo Factory are all local Chicagoans with a love of tattoo artistry and good television. The series premier introduces the artists and the compelling story of how a former addict 'covers up' his addiction. The remaining series dive deeper into the stories of artists and their clients at Chicago's oldest and most historic street tattoo studio.
The six Tattoo Factory episodes were shot on location in the Uptown Neighborhood located in Chicago's northside. Each episode shares riveting tales of Tattoo Factory artists and the tattoo art they create, bringing far more reality than previous shows of its kind. This unique twist of concept provides much more realism that focuses on the art itself and the distinguishing personalities of both clients and artists, as opposed to the drama and made-for-TV normalcy most viewers have been exposed to in the past.
The Tattoo Factory will air every Thursday for six weeks starting December 8, 2011 on Chicago’s WGN channel 9, which is also broadcast nationwide by most cable and satellite television service providers. The Tattoo Factory is scheduled to air following the popular show "Friends." Viewers should check local provider listings for air times in their market.
