IAEA Expert, Miller, Responds to US-Russian Termination of HEU

Posted on: 7/17/2006 12:00:00 AM

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert David Miller commented on the joint United States & Russian announcement to terminate the "Highly Enriched Uranium" agreement in 2013. This development could drive record-high uranium prices higher in the months ahead. Some industry experts are calling for price spikes above $50/pound, possibly to $100/pound. The coming uranium shortage could also impact U.S. utilities, which may have to scramble to secure uranium supplies in the coming years. Many could turn to the growing number of U.S. uranium development companies. In addition to his consultancy with the IAEA and as a three-term Wyoming legislator, David Miller is the president of Strathmore Minerals. Miller's company holds uranium properties in Wyoming and New Mexico, two of the largest uranium producing states of the last uranium boom. Miller said, "Because of the 20-year depression in the uranium industry, the uranium sector has had to re-invent itself." The smaller companies who acquired the uranium assets abandoned during the uranium depression are the most likely to succeed. Miller described what investors should look for, before investing in companies currently developing their uranium projects.
