Joey Chestnut retained his Mustard Belt on July 4 after knocking off Japanese powerhouse Kobayashi in a hot dog eat-off after the first ten minutes ended with both eaters downing 59 hot dogs.
Chestnut shocked the competitive eating world at last year’s Coney Island annual event when he set a world record with 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes to beat Kobayashi and end a run of six straight titles.
In the 2008 competition Chestnut and Kobayashi were forced to a five hot dog eat-off to determine the winner and it was Chestnut who managed to scarf down the dogs before Kobayashi to keep the Mustard Belt in the U.S.
