Tina Fey Returns to "SNL" to Spoof Sarah Palin's Katie Couric Interview

Atlanta, GA 9/29/2008 03:44 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

Tina Fey returned to NBC's "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend to spoof Sarah Palin in her interview with Katie Couric.

Palin received a lot of attention after her interview with Couric on CBS Nightly News. Palin said that her foreign policy experience is increased solely due to the proximity of Alaska to Russia and Canada.

On the SNL skit, Palin (portrayed by Fey) told Couric (who was played by Amy Poehler) that she enjoyed her time in New York, but "had 15-20 false alarms when she thought she saw Osama bin Laden driving cabs".

Fey also said that she went to the Times Square to catch up on her foreign policy experience "catching a movie called the 'Bush Doctrine', but it was not about politics.

Couric (Poehler) then asked about her how Alaska's proximity helped her foreign policy experience.

"You got Alaska here, this right here is water, and this is Russia. So, we keep an eye on them,'' Palin (Fey) explained. "Every morning, when Alaskans wake up, one of the first things they do, is look outside to see if there are any Russians hanging around. And if there are, you gotta go up to them and ask, 'What are you doing here?' and if they can't give you a good reason, it's our responsibility to say, you know, 'Shoo! Get back over there!'''

After promising to do everything possible to spread democracy in the world, Couric (Poehler) then pressed her about how to do that, Palin (Fey) paused and then begged: "Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines.''

Later on the show, SNL cast members Fred Armisen and Darrell Hammond recreated the presidential debate from Friday. Hammond, who played John McCain, made light of McCain's decision to suspend his campaign for the bailout bill, asking to suspend it yet again.

"Effective immediately, each of us suspend our campaigns, and instead hold a series of three pie-eating contests," said Hammond (McCain). "Next Tuesday, Kansas City-lemon meringue. Saturday, Jacksonville-blueberry. The following week, in Dallas-coconut custard."

Armisen, who played Barack Obama, joked about the speculation of Obama being involved in crooked Chicago politics when he discussed his tax plan. "My plan would not tax income from bribes, kickbacks, shakedowns, embezzlement of government funds, or extortion," said Armisen (Obama).
