This dual diagnosis treatment facility is offering a program to address the issues of veterans suffering from PTSD and co-occurring disorders.
The Veterans Healing Initiative (VHI) was formed in response to the increase in substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders among U.S. veterans. Founded by Margaret Stone and James L. Abernathy, VHI’s mission is to raise funds for veterans who need treatment for addiction and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
VHI is the first and only charitable organization dedicated to providing funding for treatment programs that are specifically designed for veterans who suffer from co-occurring disorders. This program will work with veteran’s services; private and public charities; community-based organizations; federal, state and local agencies; and veteran drug courts to promote and develop veteran recovery programs.
As one of these preferred providers, La Paloma Treatment Center recognizes that the first step in healing is acknowledging the unique sacrifices that veterans have made and providing an environment that eliminates stigma and encourages trust and openness. The Veterans First program at La Paloma provides hope and offers the opportunity to heal and overcome the wounds of addictions and pave the way for a life of recovery.
The Veterans First program will address these issues through individual therapy, specialized groups for veterans, experiential therapy and trauma therapy. An individualized treatment plan will be developed, addressing the specific needs of each person and outlining milestones along the way. La Paloma recognizes that the families of veterans have also been affected by the trauma of war. Because of this realization, family work is an integral part of the Veterans First program.
