Former Democratic Vice President Al Gore has been nominated to receive the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in drawing the world’s attention to the growing dangers associated with global warming.
Along with his Nobel Peace Prize nomination, Gore has been nominated for an Academy Award for his film “An Inconvenient Truth,” a documentary that examines the effects of climate change.
While serving as Vice President under Bill Clinton, Gore pushed for global initiatives to curb the growing stress placed on the environment. Gore supported the Kyoto Treaty which committed the signing countries to reducing the use of greenhouse gases.
Gores efforts have been supported by several of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Nobel Peace Prize will be presented on Dec. 10.
