Spirit Awards Moving to L.A. Live Event Deck for 25th Anniversary in 2010

The Spirit Awards, produced by Film Independent, will be staging its 25th awards ceremony “honoring films made by filmmakers who embody independence and originality” at the L.A. Live event deck on March 5, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

According to Film Independent Executive Director Dawn Hudson the decision to move the event to the L.A. Live event deck was made “to do something very special and different for the 25th Anniversary by holding the only late-night awards show, where our audience can tune-in live at 11:00pm on the East Coast.” The ceremony will be aired live and uncut on IFC (Independent Film Channel) at 8:00 p.m. PST/11:00 p.m. EST.
The Spirit Awards were last held at the Sana Monica beach and in previous years it was staged at the 385 North Restaurant, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Beverly Hills Hotel, Raleigh Studios and the Historic Hollywood Palladium
Nominations for the 2010 awards will be announced on December 1, 2009. Last year’s winners included The Wrestler (Best Feature- Darren Aronofsky, Scott Franklin), Tom McCarthy- (Best Director- The Visitor), Woody Allen (Best Screenplay- Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Mickey Rourke (Best Male Lead- The Wrestler) and Melissa Leo (Best Female Lead- Frozen River).
