Human Genome Sciences (NASDAQ:HGSI) surges 32.91% or $6.15 to $24.84 in midday trade on over 29.71 million shares. Human Genome Sciences (HGS) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) today announced positive results from BLISS-76, the second of two large-scale phase III clinical trials of BENLYSTA™ (belimumab) for treating systemic lupus. A full presentation of results from BLISS-52 was recently shared at the 73rd Annual Scientific meeting of the American College of Rheumatology. Both trials succeeded in meeting their primary endpoints, which should make BENLYSTA eligible for approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The stock price made a new 52 week high of $26.21.
Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLN) is one of the top movers of mid days trade. The stock jumped 10.87% to $12.24 with over 10.04 million shares. The company today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an expanded indication for BYETTA (exenatide) injection. BYETTA is now approved for use as a stand-alone medication (monotherapy) along with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Previously, it was approved for use only in patients who were also taking other common diabetes medications and had not achieved adequate glycemic control. The approval of BYETTA as a monotherapy treatment was based on a clinical study of patients with type 2 diabetes who were unable to achieve glycemic control through diet and exercise alone.
Protalix BioTherapeutics Inc. (AMEX:PLX) is one of the active gainers with huge volumes. The stock climbed up more than 7.07% to $10.15 in mid day trade after Reuters reported that, according to TheMarker financial newspaper, Pfizer is considering a cooperation deal with Protalix BioTherapeutics Inc. and may even try to buy the Company. The stock price made a new 52 week high of $10.47.
