CardioGenesis Corporation designs, develops and distributes laser-based surgical products and disposable fiber-optic accessories for the treatment of cardiac ischemia associated with advanced cardiovascular disease through laser myocardial revascularization. This therapeutic procedure can be performed surgically as transmyocardial revascularization (TMR). TMR is a laser-based heart treatment, in which transmural channels are made in the heart muscle. TMR is a surgical procedure performed on the beating or non-beating heart, in which a laser device is used to create channels through the myocardium directly into the heart chamber. The channels are intended to supply blood to ischemic, or oxygen-deprived, regions of the myocardium and reduce angina in the patient. TMR can be performed as an adjunct to coronary bypass grafting (CABG) or as minimally invasive sole therapy through a small incision between the ribs.
