When Jerry Cahill was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 11, he wasn't expected to live past 30. Today, at 50, he hosts the only regular podcast about cystic fibrosis, part of the Blubrry Podcasting Community.
Blubrry has joined the Boomer Esiason Foundation in supporting people who live with this deadly disease. For the next eight weeks, podcasters will ask their listeners to visit the Blubrry Jam page and make a donation, which will support the Exercise for Life scholarship fund.
The Blubrry Jam page is at www.blubrryjam.com.
"There are millions of people who listen to podcasts that are part of the blubrry community. So a lot of people will be hearing about this innovative foundation," said Rob Safuto, marketing director for RawVoice, Inc. Blubrry is a RawVoice product.
As part of the campaign, Blubrry podcasters will direct listeners to the Blubrry Jam web site to learn about CF and to make donations. Podcasters may also use a pre-produced announcement in their show. Musicians will help too, by donating podsafe songs for use during the campaign. All monetary donations go directly to the Boomer Esiason Foundation, and are tax-deductible.
Todd Cochrane, CEO of RawVoice, says the Boomer Esiason Foundation was one of the first foundations to use podcasting to support its mission. "Podcasts are a great way for people to find support through others. My show just helps people with new technology, but Jerry's podcast gives a much deeper type of support," Cochrane said. His Geek News Central podcast covers new technology issues, and is also part of the Blubrry community.
The campaign will culminate in a concert at the Canal Room in New York City on April 7, featuring podsafe artists HER & Kings County and Brother Love, who will release his latest album at the event. Tickets are available for $18 through the Blubrry Jam web site.
The Blubrry community is a place for podcasters to connect with each other and with listeners. Members build the community by promoting the site on their shows. Members can also take advantage of social networking features, customized rss feeds, and discussions on improving their podcasts. The community is at www.blubrry.com.
