Eutelsat Communications Announces Successful Launch of W7 Satellite into Orbit

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL)has successfully lofted the W7 satellite into orbit. The satellite was taken into space by a Proton Breeze M rocket which was supplied to the company by ILS. The lift-of the 5.6 tonne satellite took place on November 24th at 14:19 GMT. Following just a 9hour 12minute flight, the launcher release W7 into geosynchronous transfer orbit at 23.31 GMT.

Eutelsat already has had three new satellites enter into commercial service in 2009; the HOT BIRD 9, Atlantic Bird 4A and W2A. They plan on sending 4 additional release to follow the W7 into orbit by the end of 2011. The design for the W7 was based on the Spacebus 4000C4 design and was built by Thales Alenia Space.
