AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 14: Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide Remain Atop Poll as SEC Championship Looms
Atlanta, Ga. 11/29/2009 07:20 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)
The Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide managed to clear their final regular season hurdle to remain at #1 and #2 in the AP Top 25 college football rankings but now the real work begins. While the Gators and Tide are both undefeated one will see their hopes for a BCS national championship title end next week when the two square off in the SEC Championship.
Sitting at #3 in the latest AP Top 25 is the Texas Longhorns and they couldn’t be in a better spot as they just need to survive their Big 12 championship game against Nebraska and they will be playing the winner of the Florida/Alabama game for the BCS national championship.
The TCU Horned Frogs wrapped up a perfect season on Saturday, crushing New Mexico 51-10, and have finished the regular season at #4 in the AP Top 25. TCU will now find themselves playing in a BCS bowl when the announcements are made next Sunday.
Cincinnati managed to get past a pesky Illinois team on Friday to retain their #5 spot in the rankings but will head to Pittsburgh next week with a BCS bowl game on the line. The Bearcats have yet to lose but if they don’t show up against the Panthers their season could end with a bowl outside the BCS.
