Micrus Endovascular Corporation develops, manufactures and markets implantable and disposable medical devices used in the treatment of cerebral vascular diseases. Its products are used by interventional neuroradiologists, interventional neurologists and endovascular trained neurosurgeons to treat cerebral aneurysms responsible for hemorrhagic stroke and intracranial atherosclerosis, which may lead to ischemic stroke. Its product lines consist of endovascular devices that enable a physician to gain access to the brain in a minimally invasive manner through the vessels of the arterial system. Its line of embolic coils anatomically conform and deploy within an aneurysm, forming a scaffold and filling that conforms to a diversity of aneurysm shapes and sizes. In addition, its Cerecyte microcoil product line incorporates bioactive filaments of an absorbable material called polyglycolic acid (PGA), which reside within the central lumen of its microcoils.
