Earthquake Rattles Ryukyu Islands, Japan Issues Tsunami Advisory

A powerful earthquake struck Japan’s Ryukyu Islands early Saturday morning. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck at 5:31 a.m.

Details on damages, injuries and deaths are not yet available. Following the temblor, Japan issued a tsunami advisory for the Okinawa Islands, Amami Islands and Tokara Islands.

Eight United States bases are located on Okinawa. Nearly 20,000 U.S. troops are stationed on the island.
