Controversial publicist who pleaded guilty of extorting Tom Cruise found dead

The controversial publicist, David Hans Schmidt, who pleaded guilty of trying to extort $1 million from Tom Cruise using stolen wedding pictures, was found dead on Friday.

Schmidt was known for profiting from celebrities scandals. He represented Gennifer Flowers, who was accused of having an affair with former president Bill Clinton, and prostitute Divine Brown, who was found with actor Hugh Grant.

 

Schmidt was on house arrest and police were alerted after his tracking device had not moved. Police found Schmidt dead around 3 p.m. and believe he might have committed suicide.
