UAW Chrysler strike in effect

Atlanta, GA 10/10/2007 06:28 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

Chrysler workers set a strike deadline for today at 11 a.m. if no negotiations had been made concerning a new labor agreement. UAW called the strike after a deal had not been made by the deadline. Chrysler UAW workers have formed picket lines in the protest.

This is the second strike this year in the automobile industry. GM workers went on strike in September.

“Many difficult issues have been discussed involving the wages and benefits of the UAW-represented members,” said UAW president Ron Gettlefinger. “The company has thus far failed to make an offer that adequately addresses the needs of our membership.”
