Angelina Jolie may lose adopted daughter Zahara to birth mother

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt could lose their adopted African daughter Zahara to the girl’s birth mother. A woman claiming to be the mother of Zahara has stepped forward and said she wants her daughter back as she never signed adoption papers.
“I want my daughter to come home to see where she is from. Her grandmother and I both tried very hard to raise her, and I want her to come home to regain her identity,” said the woman, Mentewab Dawit Lebiso. Lebiso claims officials led her to believe that they would see her daughter again and remain in contact with her.
“After they took the baby, they didn’t keep in contact. They didn’t tell us anything about her,” added Zahara’s aunt.
Jolie adopted Zahara more than two years ago. The child was malnourished and had to receive medical attention. Jolie and Pitt also have two other adopted children and one biological child.
Adoption specialist Jerri Jenista said if the woman is Zahara’s birth mother then she does have a case since she never signed papers relinquishing rights to her daughter. “If some family member comes in and leaves the child at an orphanage and signs her over, then the mother wants her back, you can make the argument that the person didn’t truly understand that their child was gone forever,” Jenista said.
