GE Microwave Recall Due to Fire Hazard

Atlanta, Ga. 12/05/2007 03:52 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

General Electric announced that it was recalling 92,000 microwaves after it was discovered that they may pose a fire hazard.

The GE microwave recall involves their microwave combo wall ovens sold under the brand names GE, GE Profile and Kenmore from Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2003.

A door switch on the microwave can overheat and potentially cause a fire. While the microwave section of the combo unit should no longer be used, the lower oven is said to be safe.

GE is offering a free repair or credit towards a new unit on the products sold under the GE and GE Profile brand name while Sears is offering the same resolution for consumers who purchased Kenmore units.
