College Football AP Top 25 Gives SEC Top Two Teams as LSU Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs Finish One-Two

Atlanta, Ga. 1/08/2008 04:10 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

After the LSU Tigers crushed Ohio State in the BCS title game on Monday night and the Georgia Bulldogs disposed of the Hawaii Warriors on New Year’s Day the AP opted to recognize the SEC schools as the nation’s best, placing the Tigers at #1 while the Dogs claimed #2.

Heading into Monday night’s game the Ohio State Buckeyes were atop the BCS and AP polls but after being manhandled they dropped to #5 in the AP. The USC Trojans, who started the year at number one, managed to overcome the embarrassing loss to Stanford earlier in the year and finish #3 in the final poll.

Surprising just about everybody this year were the Missouri Tigers who came within a win of playing for the national championship. Instead they finished the year with a convincing thumping of Arkansas and ended up #4 in the AP.
