Tom Brady Marriage Proposal from Inez Gomez-Mont Leads to Backlash from Journalists

Inez Gomez-Mont, a reporter for Aztec TV in Mexico, attended Tuesday’s Media Day for Super Bowl XLII in a wedding dress and promptly proposed to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

While many laughed the scene off as a meaningless act there have been several journalists who have openly criticized Gomez-Mont for the incident and said it is yet another step-back for Mexican journalists who are trying to be taken seriously in the United States.

Although there were several reporters from Mexico in attendance, the one remembered was Gomez-Mont. John Sutcliffe, a U.S. correspondent for ESPN Deportes, slammed the stunt as foolish and said “Right now, the press in Mexico is being laughed at by the world.” He went on to say he hopes the stunt leads to the NFL checking each journalist’s credibility before they are afforded the opportunity to attend future events.

Tom Brady seemed to handle the situation with a lot of class and laughed the marriage proposal off but Inez Gomez-Mont hasn’t received the same generous let-down from her fellow reporters. The truly funny fact about the who fracas is that Gomez-Mont is already engaged in Mexico but her future husband hasn’t released a statement.
