Atlanta, GA 2/24/2008 07:31 PM GMT (FINDITT)
‘Juno’ dominated the Independent Spirit Awards yesterday with three awards. The comedy, starring Ellen Page, won Best Film. Page took home Best Actress for her leading role as a pregnant teen. Juno also won writer Diablo Cody Best First Screenplay.
Other winners included Cate Blanchett and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Blanchett won Best Supporting Female Actress for her role in ‘I’m Not There.’ She dedicated her award to her co-star Heath Ledger, who was found dead in his New York Apartment last month. “This is for him,” said the pregnant actress.
Hoffman won Best Male Lead for his starring role in ‘The Savages.’ The film also won Tamara Jenkins Best Screenplay.
Best Director went to Julian Schnabel for ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.’
Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie was the talk of the event as she showed off her large baby bump for the first time since pregnancy rumors began circulating. Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt refused to talk to the press about their good news but a source close to the couple say they are “thrilled to be adding to their brood.” Eva Mendes also hit the awards show. It was her first public appearance since going to rehab.
