Oscar Winners List for 80th Academy Awards

Atlanta, Ga. 2/25/2008 02:54 PM GMT (FINDITT)

The 80th Academy Awards wrapped up last night and while “Michael Clayton” earned seven nominations it was “No Country for Old Men” that grabbed top honors as Joel Coen and Ethan Coen took home an Oscar for Directing and Adapted Screenplay as well as for Best Picture. The film also provided Javier Bardem with his first Academy Award as he earned the honor for Actor in a Supporting Role.

The lone victory for “Michael Clayton” belonged to Tilda Swinton who was presented with the Oscar for Actress in a Leading Role. Swinton held off Cate Blanchett, Ruby Dee, Amy Ryan and Saoirse Ronan for the statue.

In a bit of a surprise Marion Cotillard took the Academy Award for Actress in a Lead Role for her performance in “La Vie en Rose” topping Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Laura Linney and Ellen Page.

Daniel Day-Lewis captured his second Academy Award nearly 20 years after winning the statue for his role in “My Left Foot.” Day-Lewis took the award for Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in “There Will be Blood.”

First time Academy nominee Diablo Cody took home the Academy Award for Original Screenplay for her film “Juno” beating out “Lars and the Real Girl,” “Michael Clayton,” Ratatouille,” and “The Savages.”

Perhaps the biggest moment of the night was the Academy Award for Song as Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova grabbed the honor for “Falling Slowly” in the film “Once.” In accepting the award Hansard asked “What are we doing here?” After the music cut off Irglova before she could speak Jon Stewart called her back out after the break to address the crowd and she said,

“This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible.”
