Former World Championship Wrestler Chase Tatum has died of an apparent drug overdose. The 34-year-old was found dead in his Buckhead, Georgia home on Sunday. Toxicology test results are pending.
Tatum’s body was found Sunday afternoon by one of his friends. Paramedics were called and attempted to revive him.
Tatum’s father, Roy Tatum, says that his son has been addicted to painkillers for several years but planned to enter rehab to overcome the addiction. “He was in the process of getting his life back together. He was confident he was going to turn things around, to live a normal life again without those painkillers,” Roy said of his son.
At 19, Tatum won the Mr. Georgia bodybuilding competition where he got the attention of WCW. By 1999, after a brief period of training, Tatum was into pro wrestling. He then became involved with rapper Master P. Tatum became a road manager and personal assistant for the rap group Outkast.
Tatum also got into acting. In 2007, he had a lead role in ‘Who’s Your Caddy,’ alongside Outkast’s Big Boi.
His funeral is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday at Mount Paran Church of God.
