Atlanta, GA 4/21/2008 04:32 PM GMT (FINDITT)
Ernst Van Dyk won in the men's wheelchair race of the 2008 Boston Marathon on Monday. The native South African has won seven of the last eight Marathon victories.
In last year's Marathon, Van Dyk failed in his bid for a record seventh straight Boston Marathon victory, losing to Japan's Masazumi Soejima.
This year, Van Dyk led from start to finish to win Boston for the seventh time in 1 hour, 26 minutes, 49 seconds, which was the second slowest time in his seven victories.
The Boston Marathon purse is worth $796,000, the richest of the World Marathon Majors events.
Winners of the men's and women's divisions will each receive guaranteed prize money of $150,000, which is a record in the majors, which include London, Chicago, Berlin and New York City.
The road closures due to the marathon will affect traffic Monday as thousands of drivers in Boston will be re-routed due to the course of the race.
The official Boston Marathon course map and route are available on the Boston Athletic Association website, located at http://www.baa.org/BostonMarathon/CourseMaps.pdf.
Live coverage of the Boston Marathon is available on several sites, such as TheFinalSprint.com.
