Swedish Baby Girl Can’t Be Named Elvis; Tax Officials Say Parents Must Change Her Name
Atlanta, GA 6/04/2008 03:15 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)
The parents of a 5-month-old girl named Elvis have been told by Swedish tax officials they must change their daughter’s name because it is “of a masculine type.”
A ruling by authorities states, “It is the National Tax Board’s view that Elvis is a first name of a masculine type and as such may, in light of standard practice, be considered clearly inappropriate as a first name for a woman.”
While they seek an appeal of the tax board’s ruling, the parents vow to continue calling the baby girl Elvis.
A similar battle was waged last year when the family of another Swedish baby girl named Metallica challenged authorities and won the right to keep her name.
