Gensym Unveils webSCOR.com™ for Collaborative Design of Supply Chains

ANAHEIM, CALIF. 4/04/2005 08:00 AM GMT (TransWorldNews)

Gensym Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GNSM), a leading provider of rule engine software for mission-critical solutions, today unveiled its webSCOR.com service for collaborative design of supply-chain networks, policies, and practices at the Supply-Chain World conference in Anaheim, California. The new Web-based service enables supply-chain professionals to model and simulate alternative designs to maximize performance across a range of operating scenarios.

Based upon the Supply Chain Council’s widely adopted Supply Chain Operations Reference model (SCOR) standard, webSCOR.com provides decision makers with a comprehensive design tool that is immediately ready for team collaboration via Web browsers. Unlike other supply-chain design approaches, webSCOR.com combines simulation of alternative supply-network configurations and business rule logic for policies and best practices.

"Supply-chain professionals are increasingly challenged to comprehensively design a holistic combination of supply networks, policies, and practices that best achieve operational agility and performance," said Kim Mayyasi, president and CEO of Gensym. "These design decisions are critical – they are central to competitiveness and can impact hundreds of millions of dollars in operating costs. Supply-chain decisions are becoming more critical with shorter product lifecycles, rapid demand fluctuations, unforeseen operational disruptions, and the trend towards real-time, demand-driven strategies. Through webSCOR.com, decision-making teams will now have the agility to effectively plan and respond to these types of dynamics."

With webSCOR.com, supply-chain professionals improve decision making by:

  • Collaborating over the Web to build realistic supply-chain models using detailed SCOR processes across an organization, suppliers, and partners
  • Dynamically simulating alternative designs and operating scenarios to assess results
  • Automatically computing and documenting SCOR performance metrics
  • Automatically determining required service levels
  • Applying models and metrics based on SCOR to facilitate communication and collaboration across all supply-chain team members

SCOR Ready to Drive Decision Making

webSCOR.com automatically generates standardized SCOR metrics for each scenario, including metrics for inventory levels, asset calculations, order fulfillment response times, operating costs, and over 100 additional metrics, to ensure that decision teams can model and analyze supply chains to the depth and complexity required. From analysis of these metrics, supply-chain professionals can confidently drive decisions such as the number and location of distribution sites, required service levels for outsourced goods, demand push versus pull policies, inventory replenishment practices, business rules for delivery planning, and much more.

Gensym Partners See Value

webSCOR.com will enable Gensym’s partners to collaborate with their customers to drive critical supply-chain decisions. Gensym partner Supply Chain Process Improvements, Inc. (SCPI), is introducing webSCOR.com with Gensym at Supply-Chain World.

"We are very excited about the availability of such a powerful supply-chain tool over the Web as we work with our customers to analyze their supply-chain performance and risks," said Kevin Vahey, an SCPI principal. "The subscription approach will enable our customers to quickly realize value with minimal investment. We are currently working with a large, international packaging products company to apply webSCOR.com to analyze, and profitably improve, their key customer-facing processes."

"Our electronic manufacturing customers are faced with some of the most dynamic supply chains in the world," said Mitsunori Toyoda, a deputy general manager with Gensym partner Itochu Techno-Science Corporation (CTC), one of the largest IT solution providers in Japan. "Their short product lifecycles and hard-to-predict demands can push supply chains to the breaking point. The availability of a Web service such as webSCOR.com will enable us to more effectively collaborate with these customers to help them manage dynamics. We look forward to using webSCOR.com."
