Northstar Electronics, Inc. (OTCBB: NEIK) announces that its subsidiary, Northstar Network Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Cathexis Innovations Inc. to manufacture Cathexis’ proprietary Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader, IDBlue.
Northstar Network is a systems integrator and contract manufacturer for the defense, and Homeland Security sectors and has carried out contracts.
Cathexis Innovations is a developer of leading edge RFID technology. Cathexis, working with its partner company, Baracoda Inc., a leader in the Bluetooth wireless technology, has launched IDBlue, a hand-held RFID “pen” reader that brings together RFID and Bluetooth technology. This pen-sized scanner reads and writes information stored on RFID tags and wirelessly transfers it to a desktop computer, laptop, PDA or Pocket PC via Bluetooth. ID Blue’s minimal size and weight make it very ergonomic and convenient to use.
IDBlue is gaining particular attention in the health care, military and retail sectors for applications as diverse as inventory management, supply chain, maintenance management and document tracking.
Mr. Steven Taylor, President of Cathexis Innovations, points out that “the IDBlue is on the cutting edge of RFID technology and redraws the boundaries on how RFID can be used.” He adds “we are proud to solidify our relationship with Northstar Network on the commercial development of this technology.”
The Manufacturing Agreement specifies that Northstar will be the manufacturer of the IDBlue units and will ensure they meet the highest quality requirements of the RFID sector.
