Church of Scientology Facing “Organized Fraud” Charges in France, Could Face Ban

The Church of Scientology in France is facing a potential ban in France as the controversial religion is placed on trial for “organized fraud.”

The case has been brought on by a woman who claims to have been approached by members of the Church in 1998. After being offered a free personality test she ended up spending more than 20,000 euros for materials associated with the religion.

France does not officially recognize the Church of Scientology as a religion rather; they consider it a commercial operation.

According to reports the case could be brought before the court by the end of 2009.

The Church of Scientology, which counts Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Lisa Marie Presley, Jason Lee, Kirstie Alley, Kelly Preston and the late Isaac Hayes.
