Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by gunman while en route to a match
against Pakistan in Lahore, leaving at least seven people dead and several
members of the team injured.
12 gunmen opened fire on police escorting the bus carrying the players, killing
six officers as well as the driver. According to reports the dozen gunmen,
armed with grenades and rocket launchers, ambushed the bus while it was passing
along the Liberty Square roundabout.

government. Imran Khan, a former world class cricketer for Pakistan and now an
outspoken politician, suggested “"This was one of the worst security failures
in Pakistan. The Pakistan government guaranteed the Sri Lankan cricket team
that they would provide them security.”
