Human Genome Sciences (NASDAQ:HGSI) reported progress in two Phase III trials of belimumab, under investigation as a treatment for seropositive patients with systemic lupus. The drug "plus standard of care achieved a clinically and statistically significant improvement in patient response rate" compared with placebo plus standard of care, the companies, based in Rockville, Md., and London respectively, said in a statement on Tuesday. "No new drug for lupus has been approved by regulatory authorities in more than 50 years," they said in the statement.
Shares of HGSI are up 3% at $21.59 on 890K shares being traded within few minutes of trade.
Human Genome Sciences (HGS) is a commercially focused biopharmaceutical company. The Company has three products in late-stage clinical development: Albuferon for chronic hepatitis C, LymphoStat-B for systemic lupus erythematosus and ABthraxtm for inhalation anthrax.
