Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE) is top volume gainer in the early few minutes of the opening trade and surged 12% to $1.39 on massive volume of 28 million shares. On October 19, shares of mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tumbled on October 19, 2009, after a Keefe, Bruyette & Woods analyst downgraded the two to the firm's lowest rating, saying their common and preferred shares would be 'worthless' given the nearly $100 billion they will continue to owe the government, even if recapitalized.
Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM) jumped up 10.71% to $1.24 on massive volume of over 62 million shares. Fannie Mae (FNM.N) (FNM.P), the largest U.S. home funding source, on Wednesday said it sold $3 billion of bills at higher interest rates compared to those of the same maturities sold last week. Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) is a government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) chartered by the United States Congress to support liquidity and stability in the secondary mortgage market, where mortgage loans are purchased and sold.
Fulton Financial Corp. (NASDAQ:FULT)added $0.84 or 11.59% over its previous day’s price and now trades at $8.09 on 1.80 million shares after it reports Q3 EPS of $0.10, 3 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.07. Fulton Financial Corporation is a bank holding company. The Company directly owns 100% of the common stock of ten community banks, two financial services companies and eleven non-bank entities. The ten subsidiary banks are located primarily in suburban or semi-rural geographical markets throughout a five state region (Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia).
