Genworth Financial, Inc. (NYSE:GNW) jumped 14.04% or $1.22 to $9.91 on over 18.26 million shares after Bank of America-Merrill Lynch raised Genworth Financial Inc to "Buy" from "Neutral" saying the life and mortgage insurer was an attractive potential rebound story once the financial crisis ends. Genworth Financial, Inc. is a financial security company dedicated to providing insurance, investment and financial solutions to approximately 15 million customers, with a presence in approximately 25 countries.
Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE) surges 10.46% or $0.12 to $1.28 on a volume of 13.09 million shares after today announced third quarter 2009 results reflecting a net loss applicable to common shareholders of $2.6 million, compared with a net loss of $8.8 million for the third quarter of 2008. On diluted earnings per common share basis, the net loss was $0.11, compared with a loss of $0.49 per share a year earlier. Freddie Mac is engaged in purchasing residential mortgages and mortgage-related securities in the secondary mortgage market and securitizing them into mortgage-related securities that can be sold to investors.
Lincoln National Corporation (NYSE:LNC) soared 14.56% or $3.24 to $25.49 on over 7.10 million shares in early trading sessions after the company recorded a quarterly profit after posting losses in the past three quarters, helped by a gain from the divestiture of a unit, Reuters reports. Third-quarter net income rose to $153 million, or 44 cents a share, compared with $148.4 million, or 58 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter when there were fewer shares outstanding, Reuter’s reports.
