Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE:MDT) soared 5.76% to $42.63 on 8.85 million shares after makers of artificial spinal discs, this morning fiscal second-quarter sales and profit ahead of estimates, and raised its forecast for the fiscal year. Sales rose 8% to $3.84 billion, the company said, ahead of the $3.45 bllion estimate, while profit per share of 77 cents beat by 3 cents. The company’s cardiovascular business, its third-largest, consisting of angioplasty, was one of the biggest percentage gainers, rising 17% year over year.
Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE:ADI) jumped 6.12% to $29.66 on 3.75 million shares after Analog Devices’ fiscal fourth-quarter profit dropped 27% on lower sales and margins, but the company reported a double-digit increase in order rates from the third quarter. The semiconductor company’s results topped expectations and it forecast first-quarter results above analysts’ estimates
Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE:BSX) rose 3.28% to $8.43 on 7.61 million shares after Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:ACTG) announced today that its Thermal Scalpel LLC subsidiary has entered into an agreement with Boston Scientific Corporation. The agreement resolves litigation that was pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas with respect to certain Boston Scientific Corporation products.
St. Jude Medical, Inc. (NYSE:STJ) surged 3.50% to $36.21.St. Jude Medical, Inc. (St. Jude)develops, manufactures and distributes cardiovascular medical devices for the global cardiac rhythm management, cardiology and cardiac surgery and atrial fibrillation therapy areas and implantable neurostimulation devices for the management of chronic pain.
