General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Land Systems-Canada has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, in support of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC). The contract, which is valued at $2.2 billion, is for 724 Light Armored Vehicles (LAV) for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS).

The vehicles which are to be provided will be the LAV II version. The LAV II is a 300 hp 8x8 vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of up to 32,000 lbs. The vehicles are going to be produced in 10 different variants. General Dynamics Land Systems, the Canadian company's parent corporation, is a business unit of General Dynamics (GD). The vehicles are scheduled for delivery in April of 2010.
