Employee Reported Dead at Jim Walter Resources No. 7 Mine

Walter Energy (NYSE: WLT) have reported the death of an employee at Jim Walter Resources No. 7 Mine. Pending notification of the family, the name of the deceased is being withheld.
Late Monday evening, two employees were conducting a routine inspection of a non-production area of Mine No. 7 when they missed a scheduled check-in point. Mine managers were dispatched additional personnel to assess the situation. Upon locating the miners, one was found responsive and the other unresponsive. Upon evacuation, several members of the evacuation team began to exhibit signs of heat stress and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Production at the No. 7 Mine has halted. The company expects the mine to be inoperable for at least 24 hours.
