Having already captured a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as Betty Suarez in the ABC comedy “Ugly Betty,” America Ferrara has now become the first Latina to ever be nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role in the show.
Speaking about the accomplishment to Variety the 23-year-old actress said “It is really wonderful and exciting for a lot of reasons but especially because this is the first time ever that a Latina has been nominated in this category for lead actress for an Emmy. It goes beyond just excitement for me.”
Ferrara gained fame for her roles in the films “Real Women Have Curves” and “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” before landing the staring role in “Ugly Betty.”
The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced out on Sept. 16 in Los Angeles.
