Marijuana Growing in Japan Prisons

One of Japan’s top prisons is trying to eliminate marijuana plants that keep growing on the prisoners exercise grounds.
Abashiri Prison, for male inmates serving terms up to eight years in prison, is located on Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido noticed the wild herbal growth last year.
Over time numerous prisoners have recognized and reported several marijuana plants growing. Prison officials and botanical experts have destroyed at least 300 marijuana plants over the past year.
It is believed that the marijuana plants are wild and seeds were accidentally brought in with the soil used for the exercise grounds.
