Andrew Meyer, Student at the University of Florida, Tasered and Arrested at John Kerry Speech
Atlanta, Ga. 9/18/2007 03:12 PM GMT (FINDITT)
A University of Florida student was tasered and arrested after causing a disturbance at a John Kerry speech held on the school’s campus.
Andrew Meyer attended the speech and according to The Gainesville Sun the 21-year-old “approached an open microphone at University Auditorium and demanded Kerry answer his questions. ... A minute or so into what became a combative diatribe, Meyer's microphone was turned off and officers began trying to physically remove him from the auditorium. Meyer flailed his arms, yelling as police tried to restrain him.”
Meyer had questioned Kerry about impeaching President Bush, why he didn’t contest the 2004 election, and then asked the former presidential candidate if he had been a member of a secret society at Yale University.
Officers struggled to subdue Meyer and eventually tasered the young man before arresting him and charging him with disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
Meyer is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
