2008 U.S. Open Results: Serena Williams into Finals after Beating Dinara Safina in Straight Sets

Serena Williams had little trouble knocking off Dinara Safina at the 2008 U.S. Open on Friday, beating the Russian in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the finals where she will meet Jelena Jankovic.

Serena took advantage of Jankovic’s 41 unforced errors and broke her opponent’s serve on 5 of 10 opportunities. Serena committed just 21 unforced errors in the match while allowing her serve to be broken twice.

Serena is seeking her third U.S. Open title and her ninth Grand Slam singles title. She has a career Grand Slam having captured titles at the French Open, Wimbledon and the Australian Open as well the U.S. Open.
