LOS ANGELES 5/30/2006 07:48 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)
Telescope, the leader in mobile and interactive TV solutions with the largest phone voting system in the world, is pleased to announce another incredibly successful year with FOX's 'American Idol', announcing a whopping 63.5 million votes last night for 'Idol' finalists.
More than 30 million viewers tune in to 'America Idol' each week to vote for their favorite contestants by dialing into the toll-free telephone numbers or texting in on their Cingular Wireless phones. This season, Telescope announced nearly 580 million combined toll-free telephone and mobile text votes.
Working with 'American Idol' since its programming debut in 2002, Telescope has managed 'Idol' voting for five straight seasons. This year, Telescope CEO Edward Boddington again presented Ryan Seacrest with the final ballot, announcing this year's winner.
"Participation TV has taken off in America and we're pleased to announce higher vote volumes yet again this year for 'American Idol,'" said Troy Sample, President of Telescope. "Each season we see a tremendous increase in audience participation across the country, from both toll-free voters and mobile phone users who text in. We're experiencing a major shift in behavior from our TV viewing audiences across America, as more and more people participate in their favorite TV shows through phone and text voting. On behalf of the Telescope team, I'd like to congratulate Taylor Hicks on winning the title of 'American Idol' - we wish him all the best for a long and successful recording career."
"Telescope has been a trusted partner for several years, providing flawless execution and a deep understanding of America's desire to interact with 'American Idol' by voting for their favorite contestants," said Mike Darnell, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming and Specials at FOX. "Together with Telescope, we look forward to entertaining America with more ways to interact with 'American Idol' and its contestants."
